Back to school means reconnecting with friends, attending new classes and best of all, buying new clothes and supplies. But instead of focusing on being the best dressed in your class, make sure your new wardrobe makes you feel good. Here are three tips to help you put together the best back to school wardrobe for you.

Forget fashion rules. No white after Labor Day? Wear what makes you feel good rather than what the rules say. If you love it, chances are everyone else will too. Plus, wearing what makes you feel great will boost self-esteem and confidence, giving you the edge to conquer anything school throws at you.

Ignore size. Just as our body shapes differ, sizes can differ depending on brand. A size 8 in one brand may fit entirely different in another brand. Try on different sizes and styles to find the right fit for your body.

Personalize. Many schools require uniforms, but you can still customize (within school guidelines, of course) to fit your personal style. Here are a few ideas to express your uniqueness:

  • Backpacks, lunch bags, water bottles and laptop/tablet cases come in a multitude of colors and designs. You can even add stickers, buttons or paint to give them even more flair.
  • Leave those plain black tights in last year’s wardrobe. Dress in tights with cool prints and patterns.
  • Need cold weather gear? Wear fun hats, gloves and scarves to add layers, texture and an original look.
  • Glasses, watches, jewelry, hair accessories, nail polish and even makeup can be customized to let your personality shine.
